Want to Volunteer for Maui’s Non-Profits?

Whether you live in Maui or are visiting, consider volunteering! I have had such wonderful experiences offering my time to help this wonderful place in this corner of our world. Maui County has made volunteering so easy. Go to HandsOnMaui.com  where you can peruse the many non-profits and sign up for either a one-time event or ongoing events. The site is very user-friendly and super easy to navigate. W

As a busy realtor and parent on Maui, I found the best way to volunteer is to actually schedule it. You schedule it and the chances are much higher that you will meet it. Another great thing to do is have your children volunteer with you! Some places allow young children and some are better suited for older kids. But I have young adult children and it is a great family thing to do.

Whether it is environmental, social, animal related, or whatever you find interest in, it is highly likely you will find a place to offer your time and care.

Below is a quick video I make of Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge Center from my sunset stroll along the boardwalk the other day. So peaceful, so serene listening to the gentle waves of the ocean and the call of the Hawaiian Stilt bird in the Kealia Pond. They have a visitor center that I highly recommend visiting. Did you know that some birds migrate here from Siberia? I did volunteer work here by helping plant native plants.

Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is adjacent to Sugar Beach on Maui. There are several condos on that beach. Not many but there are a few. The condos are more south of the refuge area. The condos north of this area would be in Maalaea. Sugar Beach is one of the longest continuous beaches in the State of Hawaii. Some websites say it extends about 2.5 miles but it depends on where they are measuring from because if low tide the beach just goes on for quite a bit longer. The beach is not crowded except at some times in front of the condos (but not sure I would consider it “crowded”). You can certainly find your secluded area if you walk down and away from the condos. This beach is great for long walks.

The condos on Sugar Beach are: Sugar Beach Resort, Kealia, Maui Sands, Nani Kai Hale, KIhei Kai, Maalaea Surf and Kihei Beach. Contact me at 808-276-1832 or JeannieKongEvarts@gmail.com if you want any info on these condos. Most allow short-term rentals due to its zoning.

So beyond the many other wonderful Maui activities, I encourage you to consider volunteering. Great way to contribute, meet new people and learn new things!
